The Daily Astorian
The Ear thought it would be possible to put the book "WEIRD OREGON" down, but nope, it can't be done. The tome, by AL EUFRASION and JEFF DAVIS, is subtitled "Your Travel Guide to Oregon's Local Legends and Best Kept Secrets," and is chock full of photos and commentary about things that are, well, weird (or notable) in Oregon.
FORT CLATSOP gets two pages in the "Fabled People and Places" section, and the eerie glowing sand in SEASIDE, caused by phytoplankton, gets a nice mention, too. Also of local note: "The Flying Saucer Flap of '47," when several saw UFOs in Seaside and Astoria; "BANDAGE MAN," who lurks in the woods around the junctions of U.S. Highways 101 and 26; and "TILLAMOOK ROCK LIGHTHOUSE," about the always strange goings-on out at the rock. For a fun read, check it out. It's available at (www.amazon.com)
